Swayamkrushi's pioneering Group Homes concept — first of its kind in India — places Persons with Intellectual Disability in a family-style residential setting while providing structured training, therapy, and a pathway to full community integration.
Each Group Home houses eight trainees and is managed by a resident staff member. The model provides family life, developmental experiences, and a bridge to independent community living.
Providing family life for young people with intellectual disabilities — the warmth, routine, and belonging that comes from living together as a household under caring supervision.
Providing opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities to undergo normal developmental experiences — from cooking and cleaning to managing money and taking public transport.
Giving trainees experience in managing household work independently — building the confidence and capability to one day run their own home.
Easing trainees into the concept of living in one place and working at another — just like any other member of society — through supported employment and daily commute training.
Facilitating the integration of Persons with Intellectual Disability into the community through grocery shopping trips, banking, festival participation, and neighbourhood interactions.
Swayamkrushi currently maintains five Group Homes and is growing rapidly to meet the increasing demand from families across Telangana and beyond.

* Note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no students were fully trained in 2020–2021.
The major focus is on developing skills in community living. Young people with Intellectual Disability are trained in natural environments — going for grocery shopping, tailoring shops, and performing daily chores that help them lead an independent life.
Trainees go to local markets and grocery stores independently — practising money management, social interaction, and decision-making in real settings.
Some trainees operate minor bank accounts and conduct transactions independently — a milestone that demonstrates remarkable growth in financial literacy and confidence.
Visits to local tailoring shops and hands-on training in daily household tasks build practical life skills that translate directly to independent living.
Trainees are taught specific bus routes to their place of work — building the independence and confidence to commute daily without support.
Trainees participate in Diwali, Dussehra, Pongal, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi, Christmas, Ramzan and other festivals — with the 'Aarthi' and 'Kumkum' ceremony as the focal point of community bonding.
Trainees perform at cultural events organised by State and Central Government at Ravindra Bharathi, Gulbarga, NIIT Warangal, and other venues — singing patriotic and devotional songs.
Swayamkrushi students march as a separate contingent in Republic Day Celebrations every year — presented with certificates and mementos by the Honourable Governor and Commandant, College of Air Warfare.
Every year Swayamkrushi exhibits at the All India Industrial Exhibition (NIMH), corporate offices like DQ and Cognizant, and national melas — showcasing the artistic and vocational talents of trainees.
